AI in Education: A Look at Some Exciting Possibilities
This session aims to inspire and broaden your understanding of how AI can be used in education. Rather than focusing on the mechanics of specific AI tools, we’ll explore creative applications of AI and how it can support both educators and students. While we’ll demonstrate a few select AI tools, our goal isn’t to promote any single one, as there are often numerous similar options available.
Michael Plocher is Technology Director and STEM educator at St Paul’s Lutheran School in New Ulm, MN. He has also served as an adjunct technology professor at Martin Luther College, and he currently advises the New Ulm Business Resource Innovation Center (NUBRIC), a group that promotes tech economy in rural areas. A regular speaker on tech-ed and STEM topics, he uses a closed AI system in his classroom to assist students in conveying understanding of topics studied.
Dr. James Carlovsky serves Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN as a Professor of Mathematics and Instructional Technology, as well as the chairman of the Math/Science Division and the Masters of Science in Education Division. He teaches several sections of instructional technology at MLC and has led the MLC faculty and governing board in several workshops on AI. In his teaching and training of future teachers, they look at ways to be more effective and efficient in lesson planning.
